Why you do what you do, and how to finally change it.
When did you last stop and really ask yourself why?
Why do I feel so unmotivated? Why am I lonely? Why do I get upset so easily? Why do I keep doing the things that are bad for me?
It happens because we are carrying hidden stories, and our behavior exists to keep us from ever feeling those stories. If one of those stories surfaced, we would have to face that our deepest fear about ourselves might be true.
Stories like "I am not good enough." "I am not lovable." "Nothing good will ever happen to me." "If I stop achieving, it proves I am worthless."
If somewhere inside you believe you are not good enough, or that nothing good will ever come your way, guess what your behavior becomes?
You coast. You stop really trying. You reach for the things that numb it, the extra drink, the food you do not need, the whole day lost to your phone.
If you believe deep down that you are not lovable, you either push good people away or cling to a relationship no matter the cost. And the clinging creates the very distance and resentment you were trying to avoid.
And if you learned long ago that what you want does not matter, you drift. You wait to feel certain before you begin anything, and you look to everyone around you to tell you what to do with your life, because you lost the thread of your own wanting years ago.
So how do you find these stories?
You look hard at what sets you off and what you keep doing, and you ask why, again and again, until you get underneath the easy answers. Then you tell yourself the truth, even the part your ego does not want to admit.
Here is the strange thing. Simply discovering that you have been carrying a story begins to weaken it, and sometimes even breaks it.
And once you can see your stories, and see how long they have been running you, changing your life gets so much easier. No more trying to push a heavy ball up a hill while your feelings are pushing against you on the other side.
You will feel lighter, and you will feel underlying stress and worry that you have been carrying forever start to lift. You will look at life in a different way.
